Shit Happens · Bardejov

I created this poster for the international exhibition Shit Happens in Bardejov, Slovakia, in 2023. The starting point was a local legend about a small figure on the town hall: a builder supposedly carved its exposed backside as an act of revenge after the council refused to pay for the work.

A white toilet roll becomes a heart against a black background. Smaller hearts shift between a familiar symbol of affection and a cheeky anatomical reference. The folded cardboard core adds a typographic association: turn the heart on its side and it suggests the Latin letter B, the initial of Bardejov.

The poster turns an everyday object into a visual joke about resilience. An unpleasant episode can acquire a new meaning through humour—and eventually become a story a city tells about itself.
